The People Who Bought A Kitten

Curriculum > 2007/08 > Stories

Once upon a time there was a girl called Ciara and a boy called Billy. Billy was 7 and Ciara was 6. In school on Wednesday they had been talking about animals, mostly cats and dogs. After school they got straight off the bus and started begging their mum for a kitten. Their mum said 'No!' although she soon got tired of their begging and finally said 'Yes!' The children jumped up and down with laughter nearly all day but when they went to bed they were asleep with the click of your fingers.

In the morning they were ten minutes late for school. When they went in they told everyone that they were allowed to get a kitten. When they got home from school their mum told them that she was going in to town to get them their kitten.

There were loads of cats, dogs and kittens in the pet shop. They looked at the kittens more than anything. Their mum said 'Come on, quickly pick one'. They both chose one and found that they both agreed on the ginger one. When they came home their dad built a little house for it.

On Friday they had a half day in school. For the two and a half hours they did art and they were allowed to draw anything they wanted. Billy and Ciara both drew their kitten. On the bus going home they thought of a name for the kitten. They called her Ginger.

Mum said that it was a lovely name for her. Soon it was time to feed Ginger. Ciara saw that there was no cat food left so Mum went to the shop to get some. When she came back they fed Ginger. After a while Billy put Ginger into her house. They went to bed very late.

When they woke up at 7.00 the next morning they sneaked down to the kitten. They fed her again. Later on Ciara, Billy and Mum went shopping and bought Ginger a food bowl. It was pink and had her name on it. When they got home Ciara put Ginger's bowl into her house. They let her out to play for a while and when they put her back in she started scraping at the door so they let her out for another while. They put her back in when it was time for bed. Dad said that they had to go to bed early because they went to bed late the night before.

When they woke up they fed Ginger in her new bowl.
